The location where we stayed in Tuscany for a week was called Fortezza de’ Cortesi, near San Gimignano. A special place and a remarkable landlady. A former actress from Milano, who has a couple of passions. One is the Fortezza, which she rebuild with her husband, the other is the theater (she is organizing some festivals in San Gimignano) and another one is the cooking (some of the receipts in Dulcisinfundo are from her).
The cooking passion we were also lucky to have the possibility to experience on a Tuscany Dinner in the garden.
If if comes to benches, there was one bench right in front of the reception when you arrive at the Fortezza. Made of iron and a bit rusty, very basic but perfectly fitting to the surroundings. We were there in summer time, it was 35 C degrees and the bench was in the full sunlight. So, summer is a quiet time for the bench. Might be different during winter times when it is not that hot.
More busy and used are these small benches in the shaded small terrace. This place was right behind the kitchen. The benches are pretty small. Good enough to get a short rest from the work in the kitchen, small enough to keep the stuff not staying for too long on the bench for the break.
And finally there is the bench in the garden behind the swimming pool. An elder wooden bench from where you can see uphill the great Fortezza de’ Cortesi.
No need to tell you anything about the Tuscany or San Gimignano or Siena etc. But the place we stayed is worth to have a look at.
… and here is the link to the place
If you happen to be in San Gimignano and are looking for a dinner place you should visit the “Dulcisinfundo” which is run by the husband of the Landlady. Check out the saffron menue. The owner is also producing the saffron.
