OI have been for holidays in the far north-east of Thailand. I have been countless times in this region called Isaan. Isaan is a large plain area of Thailand, about 100 km to the east and you will be in Cambodia, about 100 km to the north and you will end up in Laos.
The village I am living always for about 2 weeks is called Phonthong, it is the district capital in the county of Roi Et, the capital of the county.
As you might guess the area is quite rural and farmly. There is not much to do besides visiting temples and going to the village market. And not much to expect to satisfy my craving for cafe and coffee.
But luckily quite a big road is leading through Phonthong, and a bit outside of Phonthong there is a big gas-station, and big gas-stations in Thailand are usually accompanied by a cafe belonging to the franchise “Cafe Amazon”.
The gas-station was refurbished a year ago and cafe amazon turned in a nice pleasant cafe with pleasant out-door seating.
Many cafes would do good to steal a bit from the ideas of Cafe Amazon. They try their best to make you feel like sitting in the jungle.
Not to mention the horrendous benches around and in front of Cafe Amazon.
A bench job well done by whoever was designing this grand gas-station.
