  • Plaza espagna in Sevilla

    Plaza espagna in Sevilla

One of the main sightseeing points in Seville is the Spain Square It is in the middle of a park, and was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. It mixes some Moorish elements with the tiled alcoves along the walls. Each alcove represents a province, and the tiles show a typical scene…

  • The benches of new NOMA

The un-doubtable highlight of the Copenhagen trip was the dinner at the new NOMA. A once in a lifetime event (very difficult to get a table for the dinner) and truly an experience of food creation and presentation. In fact it is not a dinner, it is a kind of art-performance of food. http://noma.dk/ https://www.facebook.com/nomacph/ When approaching…

Orstedsparken in Copenhagen is a beautiful, calm spot with a variety of benches. On a small plateau reaching into the pond are three benches under shadow spending trees. On the walk around the pond is a series of benches lined up like a chain. Really nice calm spot in Copenhagen.

  • “Banken” and Benches in Holland Village

The English speaking Germans might get the word-play almost immediately. “Bank” or plural “Banken” is the German word for bench or benches. But the word “Bank” has 2 meanings in the German language. It could be the bank where you go to deposit your savings or it could be the bench, where you try to…

  • Genève’s Jet d’Eau

One of Genève’s places of interest is the 140m jet d’eau in the lake. Tourists can use a small walkway to go there to get wet. Along this way one can sit / lay down on this looong bench, enjoy the sun and a good view to Genève.

  • Mae Choice Dragon

Another guest bencher joined the community of benchmark. My dear old friend from university Norbert is on vacation with his family in Thailand. Seeing these nice benches in the restaurant Mae Choice in Bangkok he recalled that I told him about benchmark and he took these pictures. And these benches are really beautiful, sitting on a dragon hand carved…

  • Palais Royal – not just A bench from Paris

Walking from the Palais Royal, built by and formerly home of Cardinal Richelieu, to the Louvre, today home of the most well-known paintings and sculptures, you cannot miss this one: Just around the corner and about 100m North of the Louvre on the Place Collette at Rue Saint Honoré you can find the prettiest underground…

  • English Garden behind Monopteros

This bench has been for quite a while on my radar. It is the so called “Steinerne Bank”, designed by the famous Munich architect Leo von Klenze. It is basically half a circle of a stone bench on a kind of an island behind the well known Monopteros. …and that is basically also the view:…

  • Stonehenge

    Stonehenge

It is early morning in Cosmopolis in Singapore. The cafe’s are not open yet. I am surrounded by buildings with names like Fusionopolis and Synthesis and other futuristic names.  I had to wait till 7 am to get my regular coffee infusion this morning. To my pleasure there was a henge of benches. Stone benches,…

  • Steenberg Golf Benches

And he did it again. Winand has sent some benches from South Africa (a good place to be during European winter time). The benches are located on Steenberg Golf Course, Cape Town, South Africa. It is “only” three benches he has sent but I would assume there are at minimum 18, one at each hole. However,…

  • Aries Alley in Zurich

The year starts with a bench from Diana. Definitely the first bench in 2017. The pictures arrived shortly after midnight. I assume Diana was celebratingthe New Year in Zurich, and first thing (well, probably not the very first thing, but still..) is to take a pic from a nice, wooden bench located in the Aries Alley in Zurich (not…

  • Simple but Elegant

Shopping is dead. I am not sure if the timing was not right, it was around 3 pm in the afternoon, but there was no shopper in this elegant shopping center. And of course nobody was sitting on this sleak and elegant bench. Even I treated it more as a piece of an exhibition than…

  • The Queen of the Djungle

    The Queen of the Djungle

Despite living so close to the Kentridge Park, we haven’t made a walk in it for quite some time. Somehow over Christmas  the whole family was ready to revive our past time activity. Kentridge Park has one of the most spectacular tree top boardwalks in Singapore. One can have a really nice view across the…

  • Benches at the Wall

    Benches at the Wall

Recently I have visited an ancient city in China. As usual when in China, I was impressed first about how such real cultural gems are closely surrounded by the modern Chinese way of building.  Almost impossible for a German villager to understand, why there must be a highrise building in close vicinity to such a…

  • Sleeping on a bench ?

Thomas’ first question was: “Is this guy real ?” I took the picture in front of Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. And I was not sure either, whether there is a guy sleeping in front of one of the most visited places in Ireland ? Until I got closer ….. And now I’m not…
