Korora Lookout bench by John van der Kolk

I have to admit I have not seen this bench in real (yet) as it is pretty far away. The bench is placed in NSW Australia close to Coffs Harbour on the way to Korora lookout. A master piece of Art. Designed and created by the sculptor and artist John van der Kolk, who is by the way our cousin. And it should not surprise that the shape of the bench let you think of a surfboard, as John is a great surfer.

I knew that John was working as sculptor, creating wood art but have never really checked it out. Till these days when my brother shared a picture of another sculpture from John. Worth to have a look at John’s home page (where I also have taken the bench-picture from). He created several beautiful, mainly wooden sculptures. And by the way he has won the Lorenzo de Medici medal for sculpture at the Florence Biennale 2007 and was included in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
