Recently I have been riding a few times along Sungei Ulu Pandan. By the way “Sungei” is the Malay word for river.
Sungei Ulu Pandan is a river in the west of Singapore. Rivers in Singapore are actually all man made canals. Even the Singapore River is a canal.
On hot afternoons one can be happy, that once in a while the track is trailing below some bridges.
Prestigious shade and solid stone benches provide a perfect setting for a rest from riding in the sun.
A nearby temple renders the look and feel of Asia. Luckily I could watch all this from the safety of the solid stone benches in the shade.
For those being aware of the inherent worth of a bench must at least now start dreaming to sit on one of the three “stoney queens”.
But look a bit closer and you would see an unfamiliar and small elevation in the middle of the bench.
Only a Singaporean might know how to explain why the benches would have this slight elevation. I can’t believe that this is meant to clearly distinguish the space for the “bench sitters”. So in case you are a group of 3, one would exactly know where to sit, without bumping into each other.
Luckily I was alone and did not have to bother, but it felt a bit weird to sit on this part of the bench where it was slightly higher. Nevertheless the great outdoor environment made me smile and relax.
