Orstedsparken
Orstedsparken in Copenhagen is a beautiful, calm spot with a variety of benches. On a small plateau reaching into the pond are three benches under shadow spending trees. On the walk around the pond is a series of benches lined up like a chain. Really nice calm spot in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen meditation bench
Last week we were on a short visit in Copenhagen. Walking through the site we found this tree-trunk bench in front of a esoteric shop, inviting for meditation, yoga, mindfulness… Just sitting on this bench let to relaxation, despite of being in the middle of a busy street in beautiful Copenhagen.

MAMAC in Nice
These benches can be found in Nice – in the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain(MAMAC): They are part of the piece of art by Tania Muraud. It is named “Melancholia-P-T1” and is realized specifically for the MAMAC. The idea is that the visitor sits down and realizes that the graphics on the wall are…

Korora Lookout bench by John van der Kolk
I have to admit I have not seen this bench in real (yet) as it is pretty far away. The bench is placed in NSW Australia close to Coffs Harbour on the way to Korora lookout. A master piece of Art. Designed and created by the sculptor and artist John van der Kolk, who is by the…

Ziller Valley geo-cachers bench
This bench is located at a viewpoint at the Wanglspitze (2422m) in the Ziller Valley in Austria. Even though it is an official viewpoint, it is also a VERY dangerous location: Not only in winter due to avalanches as the sign indicates, but this bench is right at the edge of a cliff going down about 100m. Only three steps…

Who is sitting on this bench? If you do not want to sit alone, join this guy.
It is a while ago that I got inspired to write about a bench. Anyway at the first glance a bench is not really an object you might want to write about. Even the spirit of the other contributors of the “Bench Mark” has died down. They might have lost the purpose why to shoot…

“Banken” and Benches in Holland Village
The English speaking Germans might get the word-play almost immediately. “Bank” or plural “Banken” is the German word for bench or benches. But the word “Bank” has 2 meanings in the German language. It could be the bank where you go to deposit your savings or it could be the bench, where you try to…

Pont du Gard in Nimes
The view describes the location well enough: The Romans needed plenty of water for the city of Nimes and builded a 50km long water pipe. The Pont du Gard is a well-known relict of this Roman engineering , dated back to the first century. This bench looks as old as the bridge itself and is…

Genève’s Jet d’Eau
One of Genève’s places of interest is the 140m jet d’eau in the lake. Tourists can use a small walkway to go there to get wet. Along this way one can sit / lay down on this looong bench, enjoy the sun and a good view to Genève.

How a simple bench can provide a great view.
Singapore is known for solid and formidable benches. There might be a bit of a concern about the locations and number of benches in certain places, but you can trust me there are a lot of nice benches around the island. Some of those great benches are placed, I hope not consciously, right in the…

Koh Tao bench
And here is another bench from Norbert’s vacation in Thailand. To be more precise, it is from the Island Koh Tao (Turtle Island), which is located in the Gulf of Thailand, north from Koh Samui. Very interesting bench, naturally formed out of the tree trunk/root. Thanks again to Norbert.

Mae Choice Dragon
Another guest bencher joined the community of benchmark. My dear old friend from university Norbert is on vacation with his family in Thailand. Seeing these nice benches in the restaurant Mae Choice in Bangkok he recalled that I told him about benchmark and he took these pictures. And these benches are really beautiful, sitting on a dragon hand carved…

Verdi in Riva
At on edge of the city center of Riva del Garda is a tiny park, probably more a place than a park, with a statue and four stone benches around. The composer Verdi is honored here with this statue. It seems that he also enjoyed the beauty of this part of Italy and got inspired here…

Bench alley in Gargnano sur Garda
On the West coast of Lago del Garda is a beautiful small town called Gargnano. In fact all the towns and places around Lago del Garda are beautiful, Gargnano was the one where me had a longer stop for a short walk, a drink and snack. In front of the restaurant at the promenade where…

Riva del Garda – the modern bench
Riva del Garda at the Lago del Garda is a beautiful place. Nice, small city at the upper part of the Lago del Garda surrounded by all gifts nature can provide. But also here time does not stand still and there are modern parts in the city. Close to a parking house in the city center, I…

Riva del Garda – the ancient bench
We went to Riva del Garda to meet good friends. 50th birthday. The place they stayed was rented via Airbnb, a bit off the Lago but just great. Looked like some medieval castle. The tower growing out of the rock. One apartment on each floor. Really cool place to stay… …and in front a bench carved out…

The bench-eating tree
I have heard about it, but I have not found a person who has been actually at that place. And it was Karo who discussed about BenchMark on a business trip in Finland with an Irish colleague (at the bar, where else). And the guy said that he has also an amazing picture of a…
